Chapter 760 - 731: Love Across Parallel Worlds [053]
"Isn’t patience a good thing?" Maeve laughed, "People like that know what they want, when to act, and when to hold back. Unlike those young hotheads who rush into things, they’re made for great accomplishments."Sienna wasn’t convinced: "That’s why I can’t beat him."
Maeve immediately understood that the two were about to clear the air, laughing twice, she took the opportunity to advise, "Ask him tonight why he went off the grid for half a month. If the answer is satisfactory, give him another chance."
Sienna mumbled that she didn’t want to talk to him, but her tone wasn’t firm. After a while, she went quiet.
The group of four arrived at the local village committee meeting room right on time at one. Harrison Rowe and Maeve were responsible for negotiating with the other party about land-related documents and contract tax fees; Simon Forrester stayed by Sienna’s side the entire time, reviewing the contract with her, and quietly asked if she had any financial issues.
Sienna glared at him, "If there were financial issues, why would we be signing a contract here?"
Simon wasn’t annoyed, he smiled and said, "We can help with the design and construction, and maybe discuss other ways to cooperate."
"No need! We just want to buy the land and hold onto it for now. We don’t necessarily need to develop it. Perhaps we can sell it if it appreciates in the future."
Simon smiled again, saying nothing more.
The contract signing went smoothly, and all the subsequent matters were negotiated. It was only evening by the time they left the local neighborhood committee.
Harrison excitedly wanted to see the natural lake, and Maeve said she wanted to see it too, taking the opportunity to say goodbye to Sienna and drove off with Harrison.
Left alone with Simon, Sienna was flustered and blushed with embarrassment, but in the wilderness, she had no choice but to follow Simon.
Simon opened the car door for her, and she got in with a complicated feeling.
The car sped onto the highway, racing toward South Bay City Center. It seemed both of them were practicing their endurance, as neither spoke a word.
Sienna couldn’t stand the atmosphere any longer and was on the verge of going crazy. Seeing the car entering the City Center, she huffed and said, "Let me out," while immediately reaching for the door handle.
"Let’s eat first," Simon said calmly.
"I’m not hungry!"
"I am."
"Then let me out, and you can eat wherever you want!"
"I want you to eat with me."
"You’re shameless!"
Simon burst into a hearty laugh, his cheerful laughter echoing within the small car cabin.
"Let’s have a good chat after dinner, find a quiet place to talk."
Sienna, being the impatient type, had no interest in waiting until after dinner to chat. She said, "Then let’s talk first. Just finish chatting and have a breakup meal."
Simon laughed again but said nothing, turning the car directly into the South Bay Hotel.
Seeing it was the place they had stayed last time, Sienna’s face turned red, and she blurted out, "Why come here? We could just find any place for drinks and chat."
Simon said nothing, parked the car, got out, and walked around to open her door.
She hesitated, unwilling to get out. Simon got back into the driver’s seat, closed the door, and turned to look at her: "We can chat here if you’d prefer."
She turned her eyes toward the window: "Then talk, I’m listening."
Simon glanced out the window, then back to her, swallowing before asking, "After calming down for half a month, have you decided to forgive me?"
Sienna’s mind went blank. She turned to him, eyes reddening, and asked incredulously, "Is this your attitude when asking for forgiveness?"
Simon remained silent, quietly watching her, as if trying to see through her heart.
After a brief standoff, he said, "You suddenly acted that way that day, and it scared me. After I left, I seriously considered our future. I thought if we were to get married in the future and you kept getting mad at me for minor mistakes without listening to my explanations, it would make me very sad, as that’s not the life I want."
"So?"
"So I hope through this incident, we can both consider how to handle it if you don’t accept my explanations in the future."
Sienna’s heart nearly broke.
She was still heartbroken over Simon being in a closed office with another woman, yet Simon not only didn’t comfort her, he wanted to use this incident to make her promise not to misunderstand him so easily in the future.
There was hardly anyone in the world colder and more pragmatic than him.
At that moment, she suddenly felt he was a stranger, no longer the warm and kind Simon Forrester she knew. He appeared like a ruthless businessman, negotiating pros and cons with her.
Sienna felt utterly defeated, holding back tears as she calmly uttered, "I want to break up," and opened the car door to get out.
Simon followed her, grabbing her wrist, "I don’t agree."
She tried to shake off his hand, but to no avail. After a few attempts, he brought her back into the car.
This time, he simply locked the passenger door.
"Breaking up is not a solution." He said calmly, "Do you think that by leaving me and finding someone else, you won’t encounter similar problems? Will you break up then too?"
Sienna was so provoked by his words that tears streamed down her face: "Do you think everyone is as cold-blooded as you are? Making a mistake, explaining once, and when the girlfriend doesn’t accept it, you don’t continue to explain but instead use silent treatment to force her into unconditional forgiveness. How is this different from using violence to compel me to compromise?"
"That’s not what I meant," Simon softened his tone, "You were too impulsive at that time. Any communication might have been ineffective. Once you calmed down, you could have approached me, even if to scold or blame me; it would have been more useful than communicating in the heat of the moment."
"When I’m angry, how could I possibly reach out to you? Am I not entitled to my pride?"
Simon was amused by her remark, leaned and grabbed tissues from the back seat, pulling out two to wipe her tears.
She didn’t let him, snatching the tissues to wipe them herself. And as she wiped, thinking about the impending end of their relationship, she broke down and cried uncontrollably.
Her crying softened Simon’s heart.
He moved the car seat back a bit, pulling her into his arms, carefully kissing away her tears. At first, she resisted a bit, but eventually, she calmed down, lying in his embrace, sobbing softly.
Simon held her, kissing her reddened earlobes, gently comforting, "In the half month we weren’t in touch, I thought a lot, even though I know you might not be that fond of me, I’m still very clear about my feelings for you. Annie, I won’t give up on you, and breaking up is not an option. I’ve always emphasized that problems need to be communicated and resolved in a timely manner. As long as you’re willing to communicate, no problem is insurmountable. I don’t know if you’ve taken in what I’ve said."
Speaking to this point, he laughed self-deprecatingly, "I feel you haven’t; you’re still too young, prone to impulsiveness. When emotions surge, it’s like a runaway train. Even so, I still want to formally tell you, I love you, no matter what, I believe we can work things out. At the same time, I also want to ask you to trust me a little more. Since I’ve chosen you, I won’t entangle with other women, out of respect for you, our relationship, and in consideration for your parents. I love you, please trust me, please give me a little more trust..."
