Chapter 758 - 729: Love Across Parallel Worlds [051]
"Annie..." Simon Forrester was just about to explain, but seeing Harrison Rowe and Maeve looking over, he swallowed his words and said instead, "I’ll take you back. We’ll talk in the car."Sienna’s eyes were red: "I saw it with my own eyes, what else is there to say?"
Simon took a deep breath, looking at Harrison who was pretending to look at a document: "Harrison, was it you who pulled down the blinds before Jane Sinclair came into my office?"
"Yes!" Harrison quickly stood up. "I went in to prepare the 4D projection, thinking that when Lawyer Thorne and the others came, we could jump right into the discussion."
Simon looked at Sienna. Although he said nothing, his expression seemed to say, "I wasn’t lying, did you hear that?"
What he expressed was not at all what Sienna was concerned about.
Sienna’s mood didn’t ease because of Harrison’s explanation; instead, she got angrier at the mention of it and retorted, "Then after she went into your office, why didn’t you raise the blinds? If they can be lowered, they can be raised! You just didn’t want to raise them!"
Simon was speechless for a moment and took a deep breath.
Seeing the situation was not right, Harrison quickly spoke up for his boss: "I had the remote control in my pocket, and Director Forrester might not have found it. He probably just wanted to quickly finish the meeting with Jane Sinclair to avoid delaying important matters."
"You could have called him in to get the remote from your pocket!"
Harrison was left speechless.
Simon found himself unable to say anything further.
Maeve gently advised, "Alright, alright, let’s go back for now, let’s not disturb Mr. Forrester and Assistant Rhodes’s work." As she spoke, she went to pull Sienna away.
Simon put on his coat: "I’ll give you a ride back."
Sienna huffed, "No need! Go back and pull the blinds down in your big office!" With that, she grabbed Maeve and quickly headed downstairs.
Simon put on his coat but didn’t chase after her.
Harrison cautiously asked, "Aren’t you going to see them off?"
"No need." Simon turned to him with a stern face, "Tell security not to let Nina Sinclair in anymore! If I see her here again, I’ll fire you first!"
Harrison nodded innocently, "Understood."
On the other side, Sienna, pulling Maeve out of the office, didn’t see Simon following her, and tears immediately flowed. Once in the taxi, she cried in Maeve’s arms: "My parents are against me dating him, and I’m under so much pressure every day. And he’s there, locked in an office with a woman who likes him. So many people are watching; people are probably gossiping behind our backs, and he doesn’t even think about my feelings..."
Maeve comforted her, "This is a very detailed matter. It’s understandable if he didn’t consider everything in a crisis. I know you’re under a lot of pressure right now, but venting it on him isn’t the way. Men hate being bothered, you’ll wear out your relationship like this."
"That woman claimed at work that she was his girlfriend, and he didn’t stop her, letting rumors fly everywhere. Now, this, I really doubt they were once together."
"Even if they were together, that was before he met you. If you want to be together, you can’t dig into the past. If you do, you can’t move forward."
Sienna sniffled, speaking softly, "I never pried; I never asked. I’ve been very respectful of him, but..."
"Ok, ok," Maeve took out tissues from her bag and gave them to her, "wipe your tears, otherwise if Auntie sees you later, you’ll have to explain a lot."
"Sure." Sienna quickly wiped her tears. After she finished, she asked Maeve, "Are you staying at my place tonight?"
"Yes, we can discuss the guesthouse tonight, and I’ll leave with you in the morning."
"What should we eat tonight then?" Sienna said, "How about we order pizza? Just the two of us eating in the living room on the second floor, eating and planning."
"Sure, I’m fine with anything."
Sienna immediately opened a food delivery app and ordered a bunch of junk food she liked, and soon felt much better.
The two of them stayed up late into the night, discussing, and decided that Sienna would borrow two million from her grandma to buy the land. They would decide on the development later based on actual circumstances. Once they had enough funds, they would go for development. If not, they’d hold onto the land; at least they wouldn’t lose sleep over owing the bank millions.
Both young, Maeve and Sienna were full of energy and determination. From New Year’s Eve, when they decided to start a business with Maeve’s inheritance, they had been planning to make something of themselves. At the moment, Simon’s proposed investment plan was almost tacitly not mentioned by the two friends.
That night, Simon didn’t call Sienna or send a message. It was their first break in communication since they started dating over two months ago.
Sienna felt upset, unable to sleep properly, frequently waking to check her phone, hoping Simon had texted her. Even if he just asked, "Are you asleep?" she would feel they could reconcile soon.
But the result was that Simon didn’t contact her the entire week.
That week, Sienna lost her appetite, shedding several pounds, her chubby baby face thinning into an egg shape. Quentin Thorne noticed it and thought they broke up, secretly relieved.
He and Melinda Linton discussed arranging a trip over the Chinese New Year with the Sutton Family, hoping that Sienna and Seth could spend time together and maybe develop feelings for each other.
A week before the New Year, Sienna managed to raise two million and informed the agent to arrange a meeting with the landowner of the South Bay plot, which was the local village committee, to sign the land transfer agreement.
Maeve asked her if she needed Simon to go with them since Simon had experience in this field. Sienna hesitated, neither agreeing nor refusing. Maeve realized they were still not talking, comforted her, but Sienna still wouldn’t call Simon. So Maeve contacted Harrison to brief Simon on the matter.
The day before the contract signing, Maeve rented a car and picked Sienna up from work in the evening, preparing to head to South Bay together the next day.
Quentin Thorne was fully aware of Maeve’s land purchase plans since Sienna, being a lawyer, could review the contract terms herself. He didn’t go to South Bay with them also because he saw that Sienna hadn’t been in contact with Simon for over half a month and thought they really broke up. So he agreed to let them sign the contract and spend two days in Z City before coming back.
Thus, on the Saturday after the Little New Year, Sienna and Maeve embarked on their journey to South Bay together.
They were going to purchase an asset worth millions, and both were excited. Before the car had even left the old villa area, they were already planning a bright future, joking that when they were old, if neither was married, the guesthouse would be their place for retirement.
Just before hitting the highway, Harrison suddenly called Maeve, saying that he and Simon were waiting at the highway entrance to go to South Bay together.
