Chapter 27 Kill them!
Chapter 27 Kill them!
"We thought you were about to finalize a great deal with friendly merchants from the outside world that would benefit the village, and then we overheard some inappropriate conversation, and then he flew out."
Alex, who had been leading the villagers to eavesdrop, immediately stood at attention and explained in a serious tone.
After explaining, she subtly winked at Thorne, the meaning of which was self-evident. Although she didn't particularly like these ignorant villagers, she absolutely supported Thorne's choice.
The other villagers, however, did not possess Alex's refined manners.
When they overheard Raymond's plan outside, if Alex hadn't forcefully restrained them, the enraged crowd might have stormed into the room and killed Raymond.
Fortunately, Thorne still made the best choice for them. Although Thorne was shocked by Raymond for a few seconds at first, to the point that he spun around in the room, which can be considered an embarrassing moment in his life.
But the lord's actions proved that their choices these past few days were not wrong, and the many times they shouted in their hearts, "Long live the lord!" and "Thorn's loyalty!" were not wrong either.
The lord has not let them down, and they should not disappoint him in return.
For example, that slave trader who was still alive not far away—how could the lord be allowed to do such a dirty thing as murder?
Just as they were about to pick up tools or stones from the side, Thorne quickly stopped them.
"Wait a minute, I forgot to ask him why he came here. After all, it's suspicious that a seemingly unintelligent and mysterious guy would suddenly appear here, initially saying he wanted to buy cloth, and then after a few words he said he wanted to sell slaves."
Upon hearing Thorne's rebuke, the villagers quickly made way for Thorne to stand at Raymond's feet, looking down at the unfortunate fellow who, though a lump of mud, was still alive.
"You heard my question, right? Now answer me."
Alex quickly walked over, and looking at the unfortunate fellow at her feet, she added, "If you don't answer honestly, I'll tie you upright to the waterwheel."
"Mr. Loren's mission is for me to wipe out the entire village, obtain the technology for that loom, and bring back the loom's maker while I'm at it."
It's impossible for someone like Raymond, whose integrity is on the verge of collapse, to keep his employer's secrets.
The moment Thorne punched him in the chest, he surrendered.
The reason I didn't beg for mercy immediately and tell everyone everything was simply because I was in so much pain I couldn't breathe.
"Hmm... Who is Mr. Loren? Why would he do this? Logically speaking, if he needed a loom, he could have bought it openly, or fought for it, or even killed only a very few people like me. Why did he have to kill everyone in the entire village?" Thorne asked, frowning.
"Because an iron mine was discovered deep in the Upper North Ridge, Mr. Loren wanted to seize it. However, legally, the Upper North Ridge belongs to this village, so he sent me to rob the loom and, incidentally, completely erase this village from the list of protected areas."
After Raymond finished speaking, Thorne hadn't even reacted yet. Where was the Upper North Ridge? Was the village his own? How much iron ore did it produce? Could he start mining directly? He had only one thought that came to his mind.
"Use every available container in the village to fetch water from the river, the more the better. For the foreseeable future, the river water will be undrinkable!"
After Thorne finished speaking, the villagers were all stunned for a moment, not knowing what the order meant. They just instinctively carried out the order, mechanically trying to pick up their respective containers.
However, Alex's sense of smell was much sharper than the villagers'. She immediately realized what this meant and then decisively walked towards the pile of unfinished gears not far away.
Finally, he turned back to Thorne and shouted, "I'm going to make a water pump. When you have time, make me a water storage tank."
"I will," Thorne replied, turning back to the villagers before explaining, "Since there's someone lurking in the shadows trying to harm us, poisoning the water source isn't a bad idea."
This time, the villagers reacted quickly, and their movements became much smoother, leaving the open space to Thorne and Raymond in the blink of an eye.
"Alright, let's begin our conversation again. Who is Mr. Loren? Where is Upper North Ridge? Where exactly is that iron mine you mentioned located? Does that mine legally belong to this village? And what obstacles would we face if we were to start mining?"
"Mr. Loren is the president of the Golden Harvest Chamber of Commerce in Qiufeng Town. Both Upper North Ridge and Lower North Ridge are part of the North Ridge, which is a figure-eight shaped forest divided into two circles. This village is located at the weak point where the two circles meet in Qiufeng Town."
"I don't know the exact location. First, the mine is currently occupied by goblins. Second, the laws and regulations of the Kingdom of Tyran will be obstacles for you! That's why I made you sell the villagers. You and that mechanical nun are already socially dead in the Kingdom of Tyran. Don't you want to escape?"
As Raymond poured out all the information he knew, Thorne seriously pondered for a while before realizing that Raymond had misunderstood something.
He instinctively reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a crumpled piece of parchment.
"I think it's necessary for you to see this." After saying that, he spread out the parchment.
"Although I was indeed exiled in a sense, I was much luckier than those people. At least I wasn't deprived of any rights. They even gave me a lord's document, the kind that's kept in the kingdom's archives."
Raymond looked at the parchment in Thorne's hand, struggled to decipher the words and their meaning, and then stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
In an instant, his blood circulation accelerated, and the already bright red wound on his chest became wet again, and he was on the verge of death.
After Thorne saw Raymond twitch twice and then stop moving, he picked up a small twig from the ground somewhat blankly and poked his wound, trying to wake him up with pain.
Unfortunately, Raymond is currently showing absolutely no reaction. He sighed helplessly, thinking, "Maybe I should plant Raymond in the ground; he might fertilize it."
But those are all minor details for later. Right now, I need to share all the information I've just gathered with the villagers.
Soon, he didn't care where he was going and called all the villagers, including Alex, over right next to the worktable to start a meeting.
Thorne sat at his worktable and succinctly stated the important points.
"There are only two things that need to be said. First, Mr. Loren, the president of the Golden Harvest Chamber of Commerce in Autumn Wind Town, is going to harm the village."
"As a result, the village will no longer be safe for a considerable period of time, and one day a band of bandits may attack the village."
"Even the water source we depend on for survival, the river next to us, is no longer trustworthy. After all, none of us can guarantee that someone won't suddenly poison the river one day."
"Unless a new water source can be found, or that so-called Mr. Loren who is detrimental to the village can be physically destroyed."
"And regardless of which one you want to achieve, a considerable amount of iron is required."
After Thorne finished speaking, the villagers were all indignant and wished they could immediately grab hoes and picks, rush into the house of the guy named Loren, and beat him into mincemeat.
However, they also heard the lord's last words. Although they didn't know why iron was so important to the lord, since the lord could make useful weapons and tools from stone, it must be extremely important since the lord said it was important.
As luck would have it, they had overheard Raymond's words, and immediately one of the villagers shouted at the top of his lungs, "My lord, our village has an iron mine!"
"Yes, my lord! Let's go mining!"
"We're not afraid of getting tired, as long as we take down that Loren! That bastard who wants to kill us!"
Thorne quickly reached down and pressed down, soon suppressing the indignant villagers.
"That's the second thing I want to talk about. I now know that our village has an iron mine, but unfortunately, it has been taken over by a group of goblins."
After saying this, Thorne subconsciously swallowed and moistened his dry throat.
Before he could continue, the villagers' powerful and deafening voices roared from their throats.
"Kill them!"
