Zero's icy blue eyes narrowed slightly: "That sounds boring."
She turned to look directly at Chen Wenwen and said, "I'm not going."
Feeling somewhat resentful after being turned away, Chen Wenwen glanced at Lu Mingfei and whispered:
"Lu Mingfei, the literature club has an activity after school, are you coming?"
In the past, Lu Mingfei would have readily agreed.
But Chen Wenwen's worst fears still came true.
Lu Mingfei raised his head and looked directly at the girl in front of him, who resembled a gardenia.
"I won't go, I have things to do this afternoon." He said calmly.
That's right, he did have something to do in the afternoon. He had to meet with Chu Zihang to learn about Kassel College and the world of mixed-race people from him.
"Okay, I understand!" Chen Wenwen replied softly, then lowered her head and returned to her seat.
“I want to go with you,” Zero suddenly said.
Lu Mingfei glanced at the girl with no connections or background beside him and refused decisively:
"no!"
Zero is of mixed race, and he's unsure whether the girl is actually from Kassel.
Although he temporarily accepted Zero's claim that she was his fiancée due to a system task, he did not completely believe the girl.
After all, it was just an email!
He believed that with his mixed-race abilities, finding out his parents' names would be easy.
Moreover, this trip to see Chu Zihang might very well result in a fight.
If Zero is from Kassel College, wouldn't taking her along be like creating an enemy for yourself?
However, the tasks assigned by the system still need to be done, and accommodation needs to be arranged for Zero.
The Regent Hotel is definitely out of the question; it's too expensive.
Yesterday, the system guy spent over eight thousand yuan, and he was heartbroken.
As for the Liu family, that won't work either. No matter how you look at it, Uncle Liu and Aunt Liu would never agree to let Ling stay.
What should I do?
Zero's icy blue eyes narrowed slightly: "Why not?"
Lu Mingfei avoided her gaze, his fingers unconsciously tracing the edge of the textbook.
"No reason."
"Creak!" Zero suddenly stood up, the stool scraping against the floor with a screeching sound.
She glared at Lu Mingfei—although her expression was almost imperceptible on her blank face, Lu Mingfei could still sense that she was angry—and then left the classroom through the back door without looking back.
Su Xiaoqiang and Liu Miaomiao also observed the whole thing.
The two immediately took out their phones, lowered their heads, and rapidly tapped their fingers on the screen.
Su Xiaoqiang: "Looks like you won't need to launch a night raid tonight. Chen Wenwen is out of the running. As for that white-haired loli, I feel like Lu Mingfei isn't very interested in her."
Liu Miaomiao: "Who said I was going to launch a night raid? You're slandering me!"
Su Xiaoqiang: "Come on! You were almost crying just now, and now you're secretly laughing?"
Liu Miaomiao: "I didn't!"
Su Xiaoqiang: "But you still need to hurry up. With Lu Mingfei's personality, I reckon he'll be won over by that white-haired loli very soon."
Liu Miaomiao: "Why?"
Su Xiaoqiang: "Because Zero really resembles a person."
Liu Miaomiao: "Who?"
Su Xiaoqiang: "Rei Ayanami, the female protagonist in EVA."
Liu Miaomiao: "I don't recognize it, I haven't seen it before."
Su Xiaoqiang: "Let me give you some background information. If Zero is the female lead Rei Ayanami in EVA, then Lu Mingfei in the past was the male lead Shinji Ikari in EVA. The two are a perfect match."
Liu Miaomiao: "Let's stop talking now, I need to check something."
Su Xiaoqiang sighed, turned off her phone screen, and put it back in her pocket.
She rested her chin on her hand and looked at Lu Mingfei. To be honest, she really thought that Zero's emotionless face and Lu Mingfei's previous pathetic appearance were just like real-life versions of Rei Ayanami and Shinji Ikari.
If Ling makes a move on Lu Mingfei, Lu Mingfei would have no chance of refusing a girl like that.
Lu Mingfei felt a bit annoyed by Su Xiaoqiang's undisguised gaze, but he couldn't say anything and could only silently endure it, trying his best not to look in Su Xiaoqiang's direction.
……
After leaving the classroom, Ling went straight to the rooftop of the teaching building.
She skillfully retrieved the key from the bottom of the flowerpot, opened the door, entered, and locked it—all in one fluid motion.
Leaning against a corner where the sunlight couldn't reach, Zero took out a miniature communicator from her school uniform pocket and gently inserted it into her ear.
"Hey, how's it going, girl with no job or connections?" A young girl's voice came through the communicator as soon as it connected, accompanied by the crisp sound of potato chips cracking.
“The situation is bad; he’s very wary of me.” Zero’s voice was extremely low, his icy blue eyes scanning the surroundings warily.
"Tsk, too late." The girl on the other end of the phone clicked her tongue. "So what are you planning to do next?"
"I'm planning to live with him, do you have any ideas?" Zero asked succinctly.
"What?!" The sound of a bag of potato chips being crushed came from the communicator. "Sanwu! Are you crazy? That kid is obviously a lecherous bastard. If a beautiful girl like you lives with him, you'll probably be a mother before graduation."
“You have a way, right?” Zero’s tone was so calm that it didn’t sound like a question, but rather a statement of fact.
Su Enxi sighed and said, "I'll give it a try. He's staying at Liu Miaomiao's house right now. I'll send you the address."
She paused, then couldn't help but add:
"Based on my observations of Lu Mingfei over the years, if this kid were to live with you, he definitely wouldn't be able to control himself..."
Zero did not respond directly, but instead changed the subject:
"How is Mai?"
"She's fast asleep right now. She's been monitoring Lu Mingfei non-stop for two days and two nights. She's burned herself out."
"Okay, I'll hang up now." Zero silently took the communicator out of his ear, turned it off, and put it back in his pocket.
She didn't pay much attention to Su Enxi's words. Although Lu Mingfei's bloodline had awakened, it had been too short a time and he was no match for her.
If she didn't want to, Lu Mingfei couldn't possibly push her down.
In suite 606 of the Regent Hotel, Su Enxi, wearing blue pajamas, sat cross-legged on the sofa with her laptop in her arms, surrounded by several empty bags of potato chips.
She glanced sideways at Mai Shutoku, who was fast asleep in the bedroom, a hint of worry flashing in her eyes.
She closed her laptop, placed it on the glass table in front of the sofa, held a cell phone in her hand, and walked barefoot to the window.
After drawing the curtains, she quickly swiped her fingers on her phone, then carefully placed it to her ear.
"Sorry, the number you dialed is not in service..." came a woman's voice from the other end of the phone.
Su Enxi gripped her phone tightly, her face turning grim.
Since yesterday, she has been completely unable to contact her boss, and she hasn't told Zero and Mai about it yet.
"What exactly happened?" Su Enxi muttered to herself.
……
The rooftop of a teaching building at Shilan Middle School.
A crystal table and a crystal chair floated in the air, with a crystal glass shimmering with starlight on the table.
A stunningly beautiful girl with black hair and a black dress was sitting on the chair.
"Sister Xuanling, why don't you go after my other brother? Why are you staying here instead?" the little boy asked curiously as he poured red tea for a girl with black hair and a black dress.
After the tea was poured, the little boy carried the teapot to the side and stood quietly, waiting for the answer from the beautiful girl in front of him.
The girl picked up the black tea, blew on it, and then took a sip, leaving a faint mark on the rim of the cup with her red lips.
"He's about to ascend to heaven, I can't chase after him!"
"Ascend to heaven?" the boy muttered.
"It seems he doesn't completely trust you and hasn't shown you everything!" The girl glanced at Lu Mingfei, who was being treated like a giant panda in the classroom below.
"May I ask, sister, what does 'ascending to heaven' mean?" The little boy brought out a strawberry sundae from somewhere and placed it on the crystal round table in front of the girl.
"In the words of my Dingjie Palace, he is about to break through the Dao Limit; in the words of the heavens, he is about to become a Heavenly Venerable."
"Is there any difference?" the little boy asked, puzzled.
A crystal spoon appeared out of thin air in Xuanling's hand. She scooped out a strawberry, put it in her mouth, chewed it, and swallowed it.
"The gods divide life forms into ten classes."
"He is now at the peak of the eighth level, 'Universe Ruler,' while the ninth level is called the Supreme Being of All Heavens, which is the ultimate state."
The girl scooped out another piece of cream with her spoon and put it in her mouth.
"The names for the Dao Extinction vary across different universes. Some call it Immortal Emperor, some call it Supreme, and some call it the Other Shore, but in essence they are all the same realm."
"If he fails to ascend to heaven, he will naturally fall apart without my intervention. If he succeeds, the best outcome for me to chase after him now is to become his plaything."
The little boy then magically produced a plate of delicate pastries and quietly placed it on the crystal table.
The girl lowered her eyes, did not eat the snacks on the plate, sighed softly, and then her figure disappeared on the spot.
"Remember, if you want to live in the future, don't interfere with anything Lu Mingfei does." The girl's voice drifted in the void, leaving only the little boy on the rooftop.
The little boy glanced at Lu Mingfei, who was having class in the classroom, and then at Ling on the rooftop, his face darkening.
"Why not me? I could have done better than him!" he hissed, his voice filled with resentment.
The little boy reached out, and three blank cards appeared in mid-air in front of him. He slowly stretched out his fingers, wanting to touch the cards.
Finally, he stopped when his finger was only a hair's breadth away from the card. As if he had seen through something, he smiled calmly, waved his hand, and the three blank cards disappeared.
