Chapter 47 Resistance to New Lessons
Chapter 47 Resistance to New Lessons
Never before has news spread so quickly at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!
From the first two classes on Thursday to lunchtime, it's only half a morning. Professor Ares Delfino, who joined the teaching team this year, has already spread his unprecedented and novel teaching methods throughout the school.
Of course, the professors would receive the news a little later.
However, they are also very interested in it.
After all, daily life at Hogwarts is quite monotonous for teachers.
They are not as energetic as students, nor do they have a strong interest in everything.
Aside from their heavy daily teaching workload, there aren't many new things that deserve their attention.
So—
The timid Neville Longbottom may have the potential to develop himself into a "know-it-all" in the future. Among the teaching staff, Professor Flitwick, the head of Ravenclaw and always kind to students, can be considered an experienced "know-it-all".
"I heard you went through everything about your two classes this morning, Ares!"
Professor Flitwick's voice was always exceptionally shrill when he was excited.
Inside the auditorium, students were still arriving sporadically from all directions, while faculty and staff arrived earlier.
Professor Flitwick, before he could even settle into his high stool, put on a beaming, excited expression and moved closer to the dozing Ares.
"In all my years of teaching, I've never heard of such an imaginative and innovative teaching method!"
Just by listening to Professor Flitwick's voice, you know something new must have happened.
The other professors at the table, whatever they had been doing, all cast interested glances at Ares. This included Dumbledore, seated in his golden chair—his azure eyes gleamed with interest, but deep within, unease simmered.
"An imaginative and innovative teaching method?!"
Of course, Dumbledore wasn't the only one who was uneasy. Before Ares could even respond, Professor McGonagall jumped out first.
Unlike her colleagues, she wasn't enthusiastic... instead, she wore a stern expression.
"It sounds like you've overturned some traditions, Ares?"
"Oh, that's right!"
Professor Flitwick said with great interest,
"Ares made the students completely self-taught!"
"Completely self-taught?!"
Professor McGonagall raised her eyebrows to her hairline, and her brown eyes gleamed with the sharpness of a hawk.
"I..."
Ares tried to explain, but Professor Flitwick beat him to it.
"Oh yes, but Ares has come up with a brilliant way to motivate students—I heard it's like this...blah blah blah!"
Professor Flitwick talked on and on for a full twenty minutes, perfectly recounting the Slytherin team's match against the other three houses that morning. By the time he finished speaking and was panting, the Great Hall, which had been empty just moments before, was almost full!
The professors at the faculty and staff table, however, were collectively stunned after listening to the story.
Innovative teaching methods...
They could understand that, but Ares' teaching methods were no longer novel; they were completely unconventional and a complete subversion of traditional teaching!
Severus was the first to recover. After listening to the entire confrontation, he glared angrily at Draco Malfoy in the Great Hall below, who looked gloomy and resentful. Then he lost interest and lowered his head to eat.
"That sounds like—"
The second to speak was Mrs. Hodge, who glanced at Ares with slight displeasure.
"It's like an alternative Quidditch match, Ares... but the first-year students haven't even had systematic flight training yet!"
"No wonder!"
The librarian also voiced her opinion. Compared to Mrs. Hooch's subtle expression of dissatisfaction, her angry expression was much more direct.
"This morning, a bunch of students swarmed into the library, yelling that they wanted books about gnomes and red goblins, and the order was completely out of control!"
"So, I did manage to motivate the young wizards?"
Ares smiled and picked up a fork to start eating the grilled chicken wings.
"This isn't a matter of motivation, Professor Delfino!"
Mrs. Pomfrey had a stern face.
"There are still several students with fractures lying in the school hospital, needing constant care. I don't have any extra energy... Minerva, what do you want to say?"
Mrs. Pomfrey suddenly dragged Professor McGonagall into the matter.
Strangely, after listening to Professor Flitwick's description of the "Protect the Captain" competition, Professor McGonagall, who was the first to jump up, remained strangely silent. In fact, the black eyes behind the black box even gleamed... as if she was restraining something.
"What should I say, Bobby... oh—um!"
Professor McGonagall snapped out of her daze. She first glared at Ares, then turned to Dumbledore, her tone extremely cautious.
"What's your take on this, Albus... I mean, Ares's teaching methods?"
Dumbledore, his brow furrowed, pondered for a moment before looking at Ares. In that single glance, his heart tightened.
He noticed Ares staring at him expectantly... but it certainly wasn't expecting praise for his innovative teaching methods.
So, what is he expecting?
As a seasoned veteran of the workplace... no, as someone who had diligently dedicated most of the world to education, Dumbledore pondered for a moment and said in a gentle tone,
"Well... how should I put it, I can't draw a conclusion yet, Minerva..."
"What do you mean it's inconvenient to draw conclusions, Albus!"
Professor McGonagall is not easily fooled; her "work experience" is actually no more than Dumbledore's.
After glaring at Severus, whose lips curled into a mocking smile, Professor McGonagall gave Dumbledore a 'cold' stare.
"Of course you should give your opinion, Albus. You're the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, aren't you? Besides, Ares was invited by you personally!"
"I look forward to your objective and fair evaluation, Professor Dumbledore."
Ares also craned his neck, looking at Dumbledore with a beaming smile.
Do you think I should continue this kind of teaching?
The atmosphere at the faculty and staff dining table suddenly became a little tense, but Professor Flitwick didn't seem to notice; he maintained his smiling expression.
"Of course we should continue, Ares. I'd even like to try it myself... How about a 'Protect the Captain' competition among the faculty?"
To be honest, Professor Flitwick's proposal did receive some support.
For example, Professor Kettleburn, he was shouting,
"Although my rheumatoid arthritis torments me day and night, Ares, I'd love to give it a try—of course, I'll have to make a will first, in case I die on the field, haha!"
