Chapter 58 Rats deserve to be poisoned!
Chapter 58 Rats deserve to be poisoned!
"Who are you? Aren't you afraid of us?"
Harry looked at the red-haired boy standing by the door and asked curiously. This was the first time he had seen a young wizard show kindness to him and his cousin.
“I am Ron Weasley, and I am different from them.”
Ron answered somewhat awkwardly but earnestly, "My mother told me that Harry Potter is a gift from God to the wizarding world. Without you, I don't know how much longer the Wizarding World would have been ruled."
"I don't understand why the others suddenly stopped thanking you. The mysterious man didn't die, it's not your fault. At least you gave the magical world ten years of good times, didn't you?"
Harry was overjoyed to hear what Ron said.
He turned to look at Dudley, and seeing his cousin nod in confirmation that the young wizard was telling the truth, he immediately stood up, kindly helped Ron put down his suitcase, and invited him into the cubicle to sit down.
“My cousin is right. There are still some wizards who can distinguish right from wrong. Ron, it’s nice to meet you!”
Harry said cheerfully, feeling even more confident in his plan.
He warmly introduced him to Ron: "Ron, this is my cousin, Dudley Dursley!"
Dudley nodded and smiled at Ron as Harry explained.
"Wow! I know, I heard! Your cousin blew away a lot of wizards with a strong wind by the brick wall at the platform, including quite a few adults! That's amazing!"
Ron looked at Dudley with adoration, his small eyes shining, and as he spoke, he even took the liberty of speaking up for him:
"Most of those people are Slytherin, or have Slytherin parents. They're awful; they're spreading rumors about you all over the train!"
Dudley sensed the exaggeration in Ron's words; following the crowd was a matter that didn't discriminate based on which academy one belonged to.
He could clearly see that the little wizards' carts all had the iconic decorations of the four houses: the Lion, Badger, Eagle, and Slytherin. However, there were definitely more people from the Slytherin house.
"Alright, let's not talk about that anymore! Ron, if you don't mind, have some Muggle snacks! Harry and I would be happy to share with you!"
Dali pointed to the large number of unopened snacks on the table and said.
“Great! Of course I don’t mind. My family isn’t one of those wizards who believe in pure-blood supremacy. I was just hungry, and the sandwich my mom made for me got cold. Thank you for the snacks!”
Ron grabbed two chocolate bars and started munching on them, his eating manners quite delightful.
Waaaaah—
The scenery outside the window began to slowly recede; the Hogwarts Express had begun its journey.
Harry, Dudley, and their new friends are getting to know each other better.
"Ron, are you from a wizarding family? Are your parents wizards? Do you have any siblings...?"
Harry was in high spirits after finally meeting a kindred spirit.
Ron responded enthusiastically, but when he mentioned having five older brothers and one younger sister, a hint of helplessness crept into his voice.
"Harry, you can't imagine how terrible it is to have five older brothers!"
This means that new things will never be mine; the robes I wear belong to Bill, the wand I use belong to Charlie, and even my pet is one that Percy didn't want—a fat, gray rat!
As Ron spoke, he pulled a sleeping, one-toed rat from his robe pocket, completely unaware of the complex look that flashed in Harry's eyes when he mentioned rats.
"Its name is Banban. We've had it for almost ten years. By rat standards, that's considered old. So it sleeps all day long and only gets active when it's time to eat."
Ron introduced his pet mouse to himself. He placed it on the table, and seeing that the stinky mouse was still asleep, he picked it up and gently patted its face with his little hand.
"Hey! Banban, wake up! Time to eat!"
Ron called to his pet and shoved the half-eaten chocolate bar into the mouse's mouth.
"Ahem!" Dudley coughed twice to get Ron's attention and explained, "Ron, mice can't eat chocolate. Chocolate contains theobromine, which is poison to mice."
Ron blushed with embarrassment and quickly tried to cover it up, saying, "I know, I wanted Banban to eat the cookie inside the chocolate bar. It's very smart!"
Peter Pettigrew was finally woken up by his cheap little master. In his dazed state, he heard his little master say that he was going to poison him. He was so frightened that he quickly broke free from Ron's hand and fell onto the table in the cubicle.
"Oh, it's so smart! It even knows how to hide! Can I pet it? I have some pet food here, which was originally prepared for Harry's Hedwig."
Dudley lied with a look of surprise on his face, his expression perfectly matching that of an innocent child who loves a pet mouse, radiating kindness.
He slowly reached one hand toward Scabbers, the mouse form of Peter Pettigrew, while his other hand naturally slipped into the large pocket on his robe, drew a small circle inside, and took out a packet of specially prepared jerky from his personal storage space.
"Of course, go ahead and touch it!"
Ron thought Dudley genuinely liked Scabbers, so he generously said, "This is my friend, you can't bite him, Scabbers!"
"Squeaky-"
Peter Pettigrew made a mouse-like squeak.
He suddenly smelled an enticing aroma, and following the scent, his eyes locked onto a tempting bag of jerky that Dali had just taken out and opened.
The wizard who transforms into an Animagus inherits the abilities of that animal.
Peter Pettigrew, who was transformed into a mouse, naturally possessed the mouse's sense of smell and also acquired the mouse's preference for certain scents.
Therefore, he simply couldn't refuse the bag of jerky in Dudley's hand, which had been marinated with Muggle-made rat poison.
Especially when Dudley showed goodwill and cooperated, making him feel no danger.
"Squeak!"
Peter Pettigrew jumped right onto Dudley's outstretched hand.
He thought the little wizard in front of him was a good person. He had just reminded his silly master not to feed him chocolate, and now the wizard was preparing such delicious food for him.
Meeting such a kind person, today is truly a happy day!
Dudley held Peter Pettigrew, who was in the form of a gray mouse with a broken toe, in his hands, his eyes crinkling into crescent moons with laughter.
With his other hand, he tore the bag of the secret pet food a little more open, and then gently put Peter Pettigrew's mouse head inside.
With delicious food right in front of him, Peter Pettigrew could no longer suppress his appetite. He immediately opened his mouse mouth, used his mouse teeth, and began to eat with great satisfaction.
Ron on the other side didn't notice anything amiss.
He had no idea that Dali stopped him from poisoning Banban so that he could personally feed Banban the medicine.
It makes perfect sense for a rat to eat rat poison if it has narcolepsy, right?
